RevisitCare blog cover: WhatsApp Grooming Reminders After Meta's October 2026 Price Change

Short answer: Since 1 October 2026, Meta charges for two kinds of WhatsApp Business Platform messages that used to be free: replies to clients after the first 1,000 a month per phone number, and utility templates sent while a chat is open. For a grooming salon, the rules for keeping costs down are simple. Book the next groom before the client leaves, keep reminders factual, answer replies inside the 24-hour window, and send a due-date nudge once before you switch to a phone call.

What changed on WhatsApp on 1 October 2026?

Meta has charged per delivered message since 1 July 2025, and the price depends on the message category and the client's country code. On 1 October 2026 three things changed for businesses that send through the WhatsApp Business Platform, which is the route booking and reminder software uses:

Messages from clients to you are still free. Meta can only change prices on the first day of a quarter and gives at least a month's notice for rate changes, so 1 January 2027 is the next possible date.

Which grooming messages cost what?

Meta decides the category of each template from its wording, not from what you call it. Its guidelines say a utility template must be non-promotional and tied to something the client asked for, such as a booking. Prompts to come back or buy again count as marketing, even if the client asked for them. Here is how that tends to play out for a salon:

MessageLikely categoryWhat to watch
Booking confirmationUtilityNow charged even inside an open chat
Reminder for a booked groomUtilityOnly date, time, pet and confirm or reschedule buttons
"Bella is due for her next groom"MarketingNo booking exists, so it reads as a return prompt
Reminder plus "10% off a de-shed add-on"MarketingMixed content is always marketing
Replies to a client's questionServiceFree up to 1,000 a month per number

Meta reviews approved templates over time and can move a utility template to marketing if the wording drifts, so keep reminders plain.

How should a grooming salon set up WhatsApp rebooking now?

  1. Book the next groom at checkout. When the next visit already exists, every later message is about a real booking. That is the cheapest and cleanest kind of reminder.
  2. Keep reminders factual. Pet name, date, time, address and two buttons: confirm or reschedule. Put offers in a separate message, if you send them at all.
  3. Answer replies inside the 24-hour window. When a client writes back, you can reply freely with normal messages, which fall under the 1,000 free service messages a month for most small salons.
  4. Send the due-date nudge once. For clients who left without booking, send one message when their 30, 45 or 60 day cycle is due. If there is no reply in two or three days, call instead of sending more marketing templates.
  5. Check the bill monthly. Ask your provider for a count of delivered messages by category. If marketing is growing faster than bookings, tighten step 1.

What does this mean in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, India and the UK?

WhatsApp is where most clients in these markets already talk to their groomer. DataReportal's Digital 2026 report for the UAE puts WhatsApp use at 89.0% of internet users aged 16 and over. In the UAE and Saudi Arabia, the marketing increase makes "time for your next groom" nudges the line to watch, and bilingual Arabic and English templates still need the same plain wording. In India, businesses billed through India must move their WhatsApp accounts to rupee billing by 31 December 2026, or Meta stops delivering their messages from 1 January 2027. In the UK, the marketing rate went up on 1 July 2026. In every market, Meta only allows messages to clients who have opted in.

Where does RevisitCare fit?

RevisitCare tracks each pet's grooming cycle (30, 45 or 60 days, or your own), contacts the owner when they are due, and follows up by WhatsApp until they book or opt out. It also uses AI voice calls, which suits step 4. Confirmations and reschedules sync to your calendar, and it runs in Arabic and English for clients in the Gulf. To see what lapsed clients cost you, try the revenue recovery calculator, and for the busy season, read our holiday grooming pre-booking plan. FAQs

Does this affect the free WhatsApp Business app? Meta's per-message pricing covers the WhatsApp Business Platform, which is what booking and reminder tools send through. If you message clients by hand from the app on your phone, this rate card is not your bill. Automated reminders usually run on the Platform, so ask your provider.

Are grooming appointment reminders utility or marketing? A plain reminder for a groom the client has booked is usually utility. A message asking a client to book again, or a reminder that includes an offer, is treated as marketing. Meta makes the final call.

Do client replies cost money? No. Messages from clients are free. Your replies are service messages, and each business phone number gets 1,000 free a month before charges start.

How often can WhatsApp prices change? Only on 1 January, 1 April, 1 July or 1 October, with at least one month's notice for rate changes.
